Kagoshima, Japan Overview
Kagoshima is the capital city of Kagoshima Prefecture at the southwestern tip of the island of Kyushu in Japan, and the largest city in the prefecture by some margin. It has been nicknamed the “Naples of the Eastern world” for its bay location (Aira Caldera), hot climate, and impressive stratovolcano, Sakurajima. The city was officially founded on April 1, 1889.

On November 1, 2004, Sakurajima, along with the towns of Kōriyama and Matsumoto (both from Hioki District), the town of Kiire (from Ibusuki District), and the town of Yoshida (also from Kagoshima District), was merged into the expanded city of Kagoshima and no longer exists as an independent municipality.

Japan Kagoshima Trip (鹿児島の旅) 2013 Part II - City Walk
In this episode: - walking through the Kagoshima famous Tennonkan arcade (天文館アーケード). It is the busiest part of the city - full with shops and restaurants. Tenmonkan means observatory - once upon a time there was such in the center of the city. Also we tried the famous Kagoshima ramen (鹿児島ラーメン) and kurobuta gyoza (黒豚餃子).

We stayed in Kagoshima for one night. An evening on a boat in the harbor and wa-gyu for dinner, and a morning at the Dolphin Port. From Kagoshima we took the Toppy jet foil to Yakushima. The Suzuki rental place picked us up form the port and we collected our scooters.
