Inverie, Knoydart, Scotland Overview
The northern part of what is traditionally known as na Garbh-Chrìochan or “the Rough Bounds”, because of its harsh terrain and remoteness, Knoydart is also referred to as “Britain’s last wilderness”. Only accessible by boat, or by a 16-mile (26 km) walk through rough country, its seven miles (11 km) of tarred road are not connected to the UK road system.

In 1999, 17000 acres of one of Scotland's remotest west coast estates was finally delivered from a sequence of mean and mainly absent landlords into the hands of the people who live there. Inverie, Knoydart's main settlement, is a string of white-washed dwellings clinging to the peninsular's southern coastline, backed by hillsides of regenerating woodland and rising steeply to stark granite ridges.
