Georgetown is located at 33°22′3″N 79°17′38″W .
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.2 square miles (19 km), of which, 6.5 square miles (17 km) of it is land and 0.6 square miles (1.6 km) of it (8.79%) is water.
Winyah Bay was formed from a submergent or drowned coastline, i.e. the original rivers had a lower baseline, but either the ocean rose or the land sank, changing the landform and making a good location for a harbour. The rising of the ocean may have been due to melting of glacial ice at the end of the ice age.
Georgetown is the third oldest city in the U.S. state of South Carolina and the county seat of Georgetown County, in the Lowcountry.Located on Winyah Bay at the confluence of the Black, Great Pee Dee, Waccamaw, and Sampit rivers, Georgetown is the second largest seaport in South Carolina, handling over 960,000 tons of materials a year.

Hobcaw Barony is a 16,000 acres (6,475 ha) tract on a peninsula called Waccamaw Neck between the Winyah Bay and the Atlantic Ocean in Georgetown County, South Carolina. Much of Hobcaw Barony is south of US Highway 17. The land was purchased by the investor, philanthropist, presidential advisor, and South Carolina native Bernard M.
Hopsewee Plantation, also known as Thomas Lynch, Jr., Birthplace or Hopsewee-on-the-Santee, is a house built in 1735 near Georgetown, South Carolina. It was the birthplace of Thomas Lynch, Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and served as a Lowcountry rice plantation.

It is located in parts of northeastern Georgetown County, South Carolina, southern Horry, and southeastern Marion counties, and contains lands adjacent to the Pee Dee River, the Little Pee Dee River, and the Waccamaw River near their confluence.
Yuko-En on the Elkhorn, the official Kentucky-Japan Friendship Garden, is located in Georgetown, Kentucky on the north fork of Elkhorn Creek. The 6-acre (24,000 m 2) garden is designed to have the appearance of a Japanese style strolling garden.

Georgetown, SC is the third-oldest in city South Carolina, behind Charleston and Beaufort. It is located at the meeting place of four rivers-the Winyah Bay and the Black, Pee Dee, Waccamaw and Sampit rivers-and is surrounded almost completely by water. Georgetown offers the perfect opportunity to explore South Carolina's coast while staying away from the crowds.

Day 2 video of our epic boat trip from Mount Pleasant, SC, to Hampton, VA. We made it to Southport, NC, after a long trip up the coast from Georgetown, SC. No major problems, but there are a lot of no wake zones! Slowed us down, but could not keep us from our goal.
