Lake Retba or Lac Rose (meaning Pink lake) lies north of the Cap Vert peninsula of Senegal, some 30km (18 miles) north-east of the capital, Dakar in northwest Africa. It is named for its pink waters caused by Dunaliella salina algae and is known for its high salt content, up to 40% in some areas.

Exploring the Plateau of Dakar, Senegal
Day 4 has me finally shaking free of my jet lag and heading into the downtown district called "The Plateau" here in Dakar. My walking tour has me buying some horrible knock-off sunglasses, eating at the famous local fast food joint "Ali-Baba's" and visiting the local sights such as the Cathedral.
