Aomori is located in central Aomori Prefecture, between the southern end of Mutsu Bay, which it faces to the north and the Hakkoda Mountains to the south. Aomori is the capital city of Aomori Prefecture, in the northern Tōhoku region of Japan. The total area of the city is 824.62 km.
Aomori and its surrounding area are renowned for heavy snowfall, the heaviest among all Japanese cities, and, in fact, among the heaviest in the world

Like most of Tōhoku, Aomori has a humid temperate climate with warm summers, and cold, though not extreme, winters. The city has humid continental (Köppen Dfa), with monthly averages ranging from −1.4 °C (29.5 °F) in January to 23 °C (73.4 °F) in August.

The Oirase River is the only river draining Lake Towada, a large caldera lake on the border of Aomori and Akita Prefectures. The river flows in a generally eastern direction, through the municipalities of Towada, Rokunohe, Oirase and Hachinohe before exiting into the Pacific Ocean.
Sannai-Maruyama site (三内丸山遺跡) is a Jōmon period archaeological site in Aomori, Aomori Prefecture, Japan. The site was discovered in 1992, when Aomori Prefecture started surveying a site for a planned baseball stadium. Archaeologists have used this site to further their understanding of the transition to sedentism and the life of the Jomon people.
The Hakkōda Mountains is a volcanic mountain range that lies to the south of Aomori city in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. The range consists of more than a dozen stratovolcanoes and lava domes arranged into two volcanic groups. The Northern Hakkōda Volcanic Group emerges from the rim of an 8-km wide caldera that dates back to the Pleistocene.
Asamushi Aquarium also called Aquarium Asamushi, is an aquarium in the Asamushi area of Aomori, Aomori Prefecture, Japan. Overlooking Mutsu Bay, it is the northernmost aquarium in Honshū. It is also the largest general aquarium in the Tōhoku region.
Shikō Munakata , was a woodblock printmaker active in Shōwa period Japan. He is associated with the sōsaku-hanga movement and the (folk art) movement. Munakata was awarded the "Prize of Excellence" at the Second International Print Exhibition in Lugano, Switzerland in 1952.
Mutsu occupies most of Shimokita Peninsula and is bordered by Mutsu Bay to the south and the Tsugaru Strait to the north, and is the northernmost city on Honshū. Much of the city is within the limits of the Shimokita Hanto Quasi-National Park.

The Aomori Bay Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge in Aomori. It was constructed in order to alleviate cargo ship traffic. It is a famous part of Aomori City's scenery. The Aomori Bay Bridge is the longest in Aomori City at 1219 meters. It's the second longest bridge in Aomori Prefecture after the 1323.7 meter Hachinoe Oohashi Bridge.
